Tactics & Formations

The Tactics tab is where you commit who plays and how they’re arranged. The simulator reads your saved lineup + formation when you kick off a match.

Tactics page — formation picker, pitch with assigned XI, starting XI list, substitutes bench

FoxLeague supports the standard formations:

  • 4-4-2 — balanced classic, good default
  • 4-3-3 — attacking, three forwards
  • 3-5-2 — midfield-heavy, wingbacks push forward
  • 5-3-2 — defensive, three center-backs plus wingbacks
  • 4-2-3-1 — modern, attacking midfield support behind a lone striker

Pick by clicking the formation card at the top of Tactics. The pitch view animates to the new shape and your lineup slots reset.

The pitch view shows position slots. Drag a player from your roster (left side) into a slot. Constraints:

  • Position must match — a Defender can’t fill a Forward slot
  • Player must be eligible (condition ≥ 30, no cooldown, not in tournament)
  • One slot per player (you can’t field the same player twice)

Each slot shows the position requirement (GK / DEF / MID / FWD) and the assigned player’s OVR. Empty slots are red.

Click Save Lineup at the bottom. The lineup is now committed. The Squad Readiness widget on PlayMatch updates to show N / 11 ready.

If you don’t save, the previous lineup stays in effect.

When you kick off:

  1. The simulator pulls your saved lineup
  2. For each player, it reads the synced stats (NOT current cache)
  3. It reads the formation shape
  4. It runs ~5400 simulated game ticks (one tick per game-second of a 90-min match)

It does NOT directly read level, condition, or other meta-fields. Stats + position + formation = match outcome.

The widget on Squad and PlayMatch shows ready / total players. To kick off a match, you need 11 ready.

Reasons a player might NOT be ready:

  • Condition < 30 — they’re too tired. Wait or rotate.
  • In transfer cooldown — 24h after a wallet-to-wallet receive
  • Locked in tournament — they’re committed elsewhere
  • Not assigned to lineup — they’re in your roster but not in the saved XI

The widget breaks down by position so you see if you’re short of, e.g., midfielders.

  • Match position to instinct — a high-Power Defender is worth more than a high-Power Forward. Stats interact with role.
  • Don’t sleep on condition — putting your best players in every match without rest tanks performance. Rotate.
  • Save before you sync, not after — sync re-reads stats anyway, but the lineup save commits the player slots regardless of synced state.
  • Watch your bench depth — if you have only 11 and one tires out, you can’t kick off. Aim for 14-16 in the active roster.
